Volunteer Placement Areas
Front Desk Ambassador
Greets visitors with a friendly smile and gives them patient room number if the patient has authorized visitors. Gives verbal directions or may escort a patient/visitor to their destination. Provides wheelchair transport when needed.
Registration Desk Ambassador
Greets patients and their families with a friendly smile. Assists with checking in patients for procedures and escorts them to their destination.
Coffee Cart Volunteer
This service provides courtesy coffee to our patients, if appropriate, and visitors throughout our hospital every weekday morning. In addition to free coffee, this volunteer provides social interaction for the volunteer and our guests.
Human Resources Volunteer
Assists our Human Resources department with any clerical needs.
Food Services Volunteer
Assists Food Services in food prep and preparing food trays for our patients. This may also include distributing food trays to patients.
Nursing Unit Based Volunteer
For those interested in direct patient interaction, many nursing units utilize volunteers to visit with patients, offer blankets, fill water/ice pitchers if appropriate, and assist the staff with needs such as stocking supplies and answering the phones.
Emergency Department Lobby Volunteer
These volunteers serve as a liaison between staff and the patient’s family and friends in the lobby. Help with giving updated information as to wait times and help make those waiting as comfortable as possible. Volunteer may also help at the front desk in the lobby if needed.
Additional volunteer opportunities are available throughout UNC Health Southeastern, including the Medical Center. Those areas include Gibson Cancer Center, WoodHaven and Southeastern Health Park.
