History of the Cancer Center

The Gibson Cancer Center opened in 1995 as the Southeastern Cancer Center to provide local, convenient access to cancer treatment. The name changed in 2002 to honor Alice and Monroe Carr Gibson, two Robeson County citizens dedicated to the cancer patients of this region.

As Gibson Cancer Center grows, our dedication to our community—our friends and neighbors—continues. Trust us to provide a level of care that compares to the best community cancer programs in the county. This is reflected in our:

  • Accreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC)
  • Affiliations with Duke Health and Southeastern Radiation Oncology
  • Variety of services and advanced technology we offer

Gibson Cancer Center is owned and operated by UNC Health Southeastern.
