UNC Health Southeastern Cardiology and Cardiovascular Care welcomes two advanced practice providers, Family Nurse Practitioners Meagan Deese and Leigh Hinson.

Deese has worked in the healthcare field for over 12 years, having spent the last 10 years as a registered nurse at UNC Health Southeastern Heart and Vascular. A native of Robeson County, her special interests include improving the cardiac and cardiovascular health of the patients of Robeson and surrounding counties.

She completed an associate degree in nursing from Robeson Community College in 2012, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Grand Canyon University in 2020, and a master’s degree in nursing-family nurse practitioner from Walden University in 2022. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

“I think that one of the assets of being a cardiology nurse practitioner is having a passion for educating patients,” says Deese. “So much of what we do to treat patients as a whole person involves listening to them and educating them or explaining the research. I am passionate about serving the patients of this community while advocating for their needs.”

Outside of work, she enjoys the beach, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends. She resides in Lumberton with her husband and two sons.

Hinson, a native of Columbus County, has worked in the healthcare field for 17 years; 14 years in the UNC Health Southeastern cardiac cath lab, with the last three years serving as manager.

She earned an associate degree in nursing from Southeastern Community College in 2007, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Grand Canyon University in 2016, and a master’s degree in nursing-family nurse practitioner from Walden University in 2022. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

“I am passionate about the care and treatment of the people I serve, which is why I decided to become a nurse practitioner,” says Hinson. “I can assist patients even more and contribute to a care team that provides each patient with individualized treatment.”

Hinson enjoys spending time with her family and friends and spending time at the beach. She resides in Evergreen with her husband and three daughters.
