Dr. Sadanand Hegde Named 2023 Provider of Excellence

Dr. Sadanand Hegde was named the 2023 UNC Health Southeastern D.E. Ward, Jr., M.D., Provider of Excellence at the UNC Health Southeastern Medical Staff Holiday Party held December 1. The award, established in 2017, is presented on an annual basis to a provider who best embodies the attributes exhibited by the late Dr. Ward.
Dr. Hegde earned a medical degree from Kasturba Medical College in India. He completed residency training at New York Catholic Medical Center in New York City and a fellowship in cardiology at New York Medical College. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in the areas of internal medicine and cardiology. He joined Southeastern Medical Specialists in 1982 and the practice became an affiliate of Southeastern Health in 2014. In 2022, he transitioned to the UNC Physicians Network and is affiliated with UNC Health Specialty Care at The Oaks.
The D.E. Ward, Jr., M.D., Provider of Excellence Award is named in honor of Dr. Ward’s 58 years of service on the UNC Health Southeastern Medical Staff and for his tireless devotion to providing the highest quality of care to his patients, as well as his continuous efforts to improve the health system and the community. Previous winners include Drs. John Rozier, Robin Peace, Samuel Britt, Obiefuna Okoye and Thomas Walden.
