UNC Health Southeastern recently transitioned its employee rewards and recognition program from the long-standing “Rocky Rewards and Recognition Program” to a new “Carolina Care Rewards Program” to more closely align with UNC Health Southeastern’s Values.

Since the local health system joined UNC Health as a managed entity in January 2021, it has been gradually incorporating UNC’s programs, systems and initiatives. The Values of the UNC Health customer service program incorporate tenets from: One Great Team, Carolina Care, Leading the Way, and It Starts with Me--each designed to empower teammates to embrace a culture of teamwork and inclusion, provision of excellent care, and personal ownership for one’s own actions.

The monthly Carolina Care Rewards Program invites the public, including patients and visitors as well as employees, to nominate any teammate who exhibits these values by completing a form located on the UNC Health Southeastern website at https://www.unchealthsoutheastern.org/about-us/carolina-care-rewards-program-nomination-form/.

Employees, providers and volunteers who are nominated and selected as a Carolina Care Ambassador or Carolina Care Champion of the program will be honored at monthly recognition ceremonies.

“We are excited about this new path forward for our recognition program and how it reinforces the UNC Health Values that we adopted through our partnership agreement,” said UNC Health Southeastern President/CEO Chris Ellington. “We encourage anyone who has had a positive encounter with our teammates to nominate them so that they may be considered for recognition for their outstanding efforts for our patients and to our community.”

As part of the program transition, UNC Health Southeastern donated the costume of its former mascot, Rocky, to the Robeson County Partnership for Children’s Exploration Station to be enjoyed by young visitors to the educational interactive center.

“We welcome Rocky to our Exploration Station family,” said Robeson County Partnership for Children Executive Director Jessica Lowery Clark. “Young children love interacting with life-size, friendly mascots and we plan for Rocky to make appearances at special events and story time.  We plan to enhance learning with Rocky through our health-minded medical center exhibits donated by UNC Health Southeastern and a host of private dentists in the community.  Research shows that young children learn through play and we are certain Rocky can enhance our current healthy living efforts.”

Exploration Station is a hands-on children’s learning center featuring a variety of exhibits which encourage learning through play.  Learning at Exploration Station focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM). Exhibits are geared toward children birth to eight years old.
